Cloud-based candidate and job matching service Pocket Recruiter is working to change the face of talent recruitment with artificial intelligence and machine learning. Based in Parsippany, New Jersey, the startup is building a sourcing and matching engine to drastically reduce the time it takes to screen, source and evaluate candidates, helping recruiters achieve a higher interview-to-placement ratio.
Pocket Recruiter leverages an advanced neural network that learns on its own from a range of information sources, while also continuously adapting to recruiter feedback. It’s all wrapped in an easy-to-use package accessible from any device.
CEO Randy Moore took a moment out from the startup showcase at UNLEASH Conference & Expo in London to share the motivation for founding the company and where it’s headed in the near future.
What made you decide to start the company?
I ran a multi-division staffing firm and I’ve also been on the corporate side. I was always looking at these HR tools that had these great functions that just seemed like there was an additional piece of control that could really help. I always felt like if I could build something it would be like the cockpit that sits right on top and gives all the functionality to the recruiter on one screen. That was what we set out to do. We’re not all the way there yet — we’re still battling — but that’s the concept: harnessing all the powers underneath the hood to give recruiters a very simple, easy-to-use tool.
So what’s next?
One of the biggest things that we’re focusing on right now is the customer experience. A lot of times people invest in fancy features instead of making the experience better and the support better. So over the next few months our biggest task is listening to our customers inside out. We’ve already made about 15 different modifications to our backend, so the experience is better. Our vision is to teach a computer how to do all of the work that the human does in that phase, without any human intervention. So it’s a task, and it’s not all the way done yet.
What are some of the other startups that you find the most intriguing?
I have good relationships with Candidate.ID, and I think that they’ve got a good feel for things. I’ve also talked to Job Pal and I think they have some interesting things going on. They’re all pretty cool. I guess I’m a techie at heart, so they’re all kind of fun.
