Companies hiring large amounts of workers are often forced to dedicate considerable resources reaching out to candidates and asking them basic questions before they ever get to a real interview with a hiring manager. Russian-based startup Robot Vera is betting that an AI-powered recruitment tool can dramatically reduce the time and resources needed during these early stages of the hiring process.
Robot Vera, which was founded in 2015 and was the winner of the UNLEASH Startup Award in Amsterdam in 2017, has created a tool that goes through the entire chain of the hiring process, finds the best candidates for a job and invites them to the final interview with the employer. Robot Vera says its software is able to recognise a candidate’s emotions in video interviews. It’s also learning to lead a live conversation and answer the questions of applicants about the vacancy or the employer.
The company, which launched its first pilot projects with international customers last year, has raised investments from the Internet Initiatives Development Fund in Europe and has plans to expand into the U.K. and U.S. markets soon.
Co-owner and Chief Business Development Officer Alexey Kostarev took a few moments out of the UNLEASH Startup Zone events in London to discuss the company’s innovative product and its plans for international expansion.
Describe what Robot Vera does.
Robot Vera is robot recruiter who does the interviews with candidates. When you need to hire thousands of people, and you need to interview them, you may need to ask basic questions like are they still looking for a job? Vera can call the candidates and ask them the qualifying questions. Another thing that we’re doing, the candidates always have the questions about the job, some details about job description, so the Vera understands the questions and can answer the questions of the candidates. And finally, if the candidate goes through the screening interview and Vera gets the right answers, she also could invite a candidate for an interview with the hiring manager.
Why did you decide to start the company?
Basically we were doing Uber for recruiters and we got a request from one company to hire 100 warehouse workers. We conducted 1,100 calls, collected the resumes from the different applicants and called all of the people. It was a lot of routine stuff and we decided to make a robot who could do all of that stuff for us. It took us three months and, right now, we help enterprise companies in Russia and do more than 50,000 interviews a day.
So what’s your goal for the next 12 to 18 months?
Right now our main goal is the international market and the sales on the international market. We’re focused on sales in the UK and we are also doing sales in the United States.
